In a historic moment for Adamawa State, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri inaugurated the state’s second flyover and interchange project at Ahmadu Bello Way, Yola, on May 29, 2024. The event marked a significant milestone in Governor Fintiri’s ambitious developmental agenda, which continues to gain momentum despite the challenges often faced by second-term leaders.
Governor Fintiri, known for his relentless drive to ensure no one is left behind, has made remarkable strides across various sectors including urban and rural development, youth and women empowerment, employment, health, and security. His administration, aptly dubbed the “fresh air administration,” has brought tangible improvements and renewed hope to the people of Adamawa
The inauguration ceremony, held in the late morning hours and extending into the afternoon, was graced by the esteemed presence of former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who served as the special guest of honor. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and pride as the new infrastructure was unveiled, symbolizing progress and the promise of a better future.
In his welcoming address, Governor Fintiri reflected on the project’s challenging journey. He recounted how skeptics initially dismissed the initiative as impractical and unnecessary. Undeterred, the governor posed the rhetorical question, “If not now, when? And if not us, who?” Today, the successful completion of the interchange stands as a testament to his administration’s determination and capability.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in his address, shared a personal anecdote from his time in Adamawa State prison, where he was shown kindness by the late Lamido Aliyu Mustapha. This connection to Adamawa added a poignant touch to his commendation of Governor Fintiri. He lauded the governor’s exceptional efforts, stating, “You are doing very well, you must continue to do well. If Nigeria can have other leaders doing half of what you are doing, we’ll soar higher in no time.”
The former governor of Adamawa State, Barr. Bala James Ngillari, also praised the initiative in his goodwill message, urging the people of Adamawa to support Governor Fintiri’s administration and its developmental vision.
Alhaji Adamu Atiku, the Commissioner for Works and Energy, provided further insights into the project’s execution. Initially slated for completion in 18 months, the interchange was finished in just 13 months, a feat he attributed to Governor Fintiri’s exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment.
The event was not only a celebration of infrastructural development but also a showcase of Adamawa’s rich cultural heritage. Traditional dances by the Zagwa Zagwa warriors from Madagali, Fulani dancers from Yola South, Worunganjiya dancers of Numan LGA, and Mbaya dancers of Maiha LGA added vibrant colors and rhythms to the festivities, highlighting the diverse cultural tapestry of the state.
Governor Fintiri’s inauguration of the Yola Grade Interchange is more than a significant infrastructural achievement; it is a beacon of hope and a symbol of what can be accomplished with visionary leadership and community support.
