Stir360: Fashion & Style, What is your take on that?
Uhm.. Fashion & Style? Well, though these two are frequently used as same thing but they are quite different. If I’d pick a side, it’s definitely ‘style’, because it’s more like a personality, how one tends to express his/herself with Clothing, body movements and basically everything. While fashion is a popular trend of dressing in a specific time and moment. Fashion do evolves and changes overtime but style is always true and timeless.
Stir360: Is it important?
Oh yes, Fashion and Style is important as it tends to showcase & preserve people’s culture. These days, fashion and style is given more importance as it’s just another channel to express you, but more than self-expression, it’s now a source of livelihood and self-empowerment to a lot of people. It also opens our mind and effects beauty standards of our society. It always balances our history and constant globalization.
Stir360: Who in your opinion is a great example of this in the Northeast or Nigeria at large?
Well, there are quite a lot of individuals creating wave in the Nigerian fashion scene. But I’ll always choose “Mai Atafo”, christened, as ‘Ohima Atafo’ because he’s good in given off Afrocentric styling and by so, I feel he’s lending hands into promoting and preserving our African culture in a bit modern ways.
Stir360: What in your opinion is the challenge facing northeast fashion industry?
Some of the challenges are; Time, Money, Competition on price, Good management skills and availability of fabrics. Truth is, there are lots of ideas but not enough funds to make it a reality. Fashion is a business where you need money in every step, to make quality designs, to market it and promote it.
Stir360: As a fashionista, what does colors mean to you?
Uhm…. Colors in fashion means a lot because people have always used color as symbols and add meanings to what one stands for, Blue color is a major standout for me, only for its calming nature and it depicts humility and loyalty.
Stir360: Do we need better role models in this country?
Oh yes, Nigeria really needs role models not only in the aspect of fashion and all of that. It’s obvious to see even in our immediate environment how teenagers tend to be drug addicts, criminal-minded and lot lots of bad vices, majorly because they grew up seeing their immediate seniors in the act and they easily become part of it.
Having good role models in every angle of this country will definitely, though might take a while but it will help a lot in inculcating good manners into the teaming vulnerable teenagers.
Stir360: What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership to me means taking a mantle of being someone who can see how things can be improved and who rallies people to move toward that better vision.
As a leader, I can work toward making their vision a reality while putting people first. Just being able to motivate people isn’t enough, leaders need to be empathetic and connect with people to be successful.
Stir360: Who are you?
Jamba Bulus by birth but popularly known as ‘Jayy’ is a visionary youth in his late 20s. Jayy is ‘clothe-minded’ and always take his dressing and looks seriously from his early days because he believes ‘first impression is always the last impression
