Dr. Zainab Baba Mbilla Kwonchi

Dr. Zainab Baba Mbilla Kwonchi was born on 13^th February 1956 at Mbilla Kwoonchi Malaba District Fufore Local Government; She was brought up in jimeta, Yola North Local Government. She obtained her M.B.B.S Certificate from ZAhmadu Bellow Zaria in 1982, Membership of Royal College of Ophthalmologist (MRCOPHTH) United Kingdom (Britain) 1991, Certificate in surgical skills in the Gambia 1992 and Masters in Community Eye Health Peshawar, Pakistan in year 2002 (MSc. CEH, Following her pre-registration Horsemanship at General Murtala Mohammed Hospital Kano, Kano State and National Youth Service at Basic Center Health Center Yola, town Adamawa State, she worked as a Medical Officer at Specialist Hospital, Jimeta Yola, before enrolling to specialize in Ophthalmology firs, Guinness Eye Centre in A.B.U Teaching Hospital Kaduna and later Department on Ophthalmology; western infirmary University of Glasgow Scotland. Following the aforementioned, she obtained membership of the Royal Collage of Ophthalmologist UK. (MRCOPHTH)

For further experience on Ophthalmologic practice in Africa concerning eye diseases in hot climate, she went to the Gambia for surgical Skills (Certificate) she came back to work as an Ophthalmogist in Specialist Hospital Yola, under Hospital Services Management Board Yola, Adamawa State. With advent of vision 2020 the right to sight by the year 2020, she went for Masters in Community Eye Health at University of Peshawar Department of Community Eye Health Hayatabad Pakistan. (MSc. She came back to establish Prevention of Blindness Programme in Adamawa State. She was the Head of Department of Ophthalmology (HOD) in Specialist Hospital Yola from 1992 to the 2007, also Director of Hospital Service and Training, Ministry of Health Yola, Adamawa State from 1994-2007, when she was appointed the Honourable Commissioner for Health for Health from 2007-2010. When she was director Hospital Management Service, she attained various training in health administration, management and Computer literacy which assisted her in functioning effectively in the discharge of her duties both in the administrative and clinical ophthalmic practice. She was able to organize and conduct trainings in the Eye Health and Prevention of Blindness to many health workers and primary school teachers across the state, she also organized and conducted Medical Missions and Eye Camp (more than 30 times) either alone or in collaboration with international N.G.Os eg. Hellen Keller International 2001-2007, ECWA Eye Hospital Kano, Royal Society for the blind (Sight Saves International Britain), C.B.M/ECWA (with base in Kano), Albashir International (Base in Saudia) University Teaching Hospital Washington D.C. U.S.A etc. she took part in Trachoma Research conducted by Keller International in northern Nigerian and conducted Research on prevalence of blindness in Fufore L.G.A as part Masters in Community Eye Health.
