Bridge Builder
Alhaji Sadiq Umar Daware
Sadiq Umar Daware, is the initiator and National Chairman of the North East Commodity Association (NECAS) that is involved in services relating to agriculture and human capacity development across the North-East region of Nigeria (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States). Also, he is a BOT member of Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), BOT Chairman of National Association of Sorghum Producers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NASPPMN) and holds significant stake in many other reputable organisations.
Besides being a successful practicing farmer with core competence in the optimal use of cutting-edge technology to leverage the socio-economic benefits of the value-chain approach to agriculture, he is an agropreneur per excellence.
Through a rare blend of technical competence, result-oriented leadership, dexterous business acumen and passionate advocacy, he has used NECAS to literally transform the way agriculture is practiced in the Northeast of Nigeria.
He cut his teeth in project management when he headed the Projects Monitoring and Performance Evaluation (PMPE) Department of the Special Projects and Programmes Unit (SPPU) that coordinated special projects under the office of the then Executive Governor of Adamawa State. Until date, this programme remains the benchmark and worthy model for all grassroots-oriented projects and programmes in the state.
His ability to make possible what was once deemed impossible, insurmountable and unachievable in the agricultural sector has continued to stun pundits and has given credence to the public opinion in the agricultural sector that he is a pacesetter in the drive to turn around farming into a commercially viable business in Nigeria and ensure the attainment of zero hunger for the populace.
His countless laudable and innovative ideas have had crosscutting impact on both public and private sector. Also, through his many intervention projects and programs he has been credited with the achievement of some significant milestones in the agricultural sector like the deployment of 600 brand-new tractors fitted with latest telematics devices to pioneer a modern approach to mechanization service provision.
With an impeccable track record of excellence both in the public and private sector, he has positioned himself as a force to reckon with in the food security and entire agricultural sector in the country. More so, he has become a role model to the youths as attested to by the myriads of awards and accolades he has received from acclaimed youth organizations within and outside the country.
Another sterling quality that has endeared him to so many is his philanthropy. His visible footprints are all over different spheres of life; from education, sports, health, entrepreneurship, etc. His empathy for the needy, less-privileged, indigent, downtrodden and vulnerable groups have been expressed through the deployment of his considerable personal resources to meet their felt needs. A case in point is a recent public event where he collaborated with the Royalty Women for Peace and Development Initiative (ROWPEDI) to organize a one-day sensitization workshop for 600 indigent teenage girls on the need for proper personal hygiene and distributed personal hygiene kits that could last each beneficiary at least four (4) months.
He holds a B.Tech. in Operations Research from the Federal University of Technology, Yola (now Modibbo Adama University) as well as an honourary Doctorate Degree from the American Heritage University, Southern California, USA. He is well-travelled and a committed family man.
